Hello!

I photographed an adorable little 2.5 year old girl last week.  But first I have a few important business items to cover.

  • July 22nd is the date set for the exciting   Day of Mentoring with Anna, Rebecca and myself in Salt Lake City.  Registrations went very quickly but we have a few spots that have just opened up.  All the details can be found here.
  • Free Photo Session up for grabs!  Rebecca and I are working together in Utah for a few days of sessions and we are conducting a location and model search.  If you are chosen we are offering a free Darling-Art photo session and a generous print credit in exchange.  Check here for all the information.
  • UK schedule for Dena Robles–it is getting close to summer travel time and I will be  working and (hopefully) relaxing in the States.  I am continuing to book sessions for the remainder of June and the first 2 weeks of July.  These bookings will be for my Signature Session only.  Signature Sessions are full length sessions for £550 and include a selection of up to 6 wall prints and 5 digital files of ordered prints.  I will make announcements for the autumn in August.

This is the cute, sweet, fun, and busy little Alice from last week.  She was very comfortable in front of my camera and showed me quite the variety of 2 1/2 year old attitudes.  She even took a few turns behind the camera as well.

This one is my favorite.

This one is just FUN.    I love how two year olds do everything they do with all their heart completely invested.  It is all or nothing.

LianDoo: Hey Dena, i love your black and white photography. The little newborns, the details - the conversions - lova all... I am a german photography and i stopping few time on your blog

You will never never ever ever ever guess where I held this session……

hmmmmm, could it be in an alley?  Popular venue isn’t it?  What my American readers need to understand is that our city is FULL of alleyways.  I imagine the whole of England is full of alleyways.  Instead of city blocks, our roads are very long and narrow and lined with houses.  Most of the houses are ‘terraced’ (attached on both sides) or ’semis’ (attached on one side.)  Then the homes back up onto another long road of homes and inbetween all these roads of houses are…you guessed it, alleyways!  So nearly every two roads share an alleyway. They were used to deliver coal to the homes for heating way back when.  The extra cool part for me is that everyone’s back garden has a different fence or wall onto the alleyway,  so it is a very textural and colorful place to shoot.  Plus, all these ‘tweens’ think it is cool to hang out in the skinny little alleys.  Now you may have just learned something new about my enviro.

Okay okay okay, Ruby.  RUBY!  She is the youngest of one of my favorite local families.  You’ve seen her before, you will definitely see her again.  She photographs wonderfully and has a lot of fun while doing it.  I photographed all 3 of them recently but am going to spread out their sneak peeks over a few posts.  Being 3 siblings, each a year apart tends to lead to a b*i*t of competitive behavior.  You guys know what I am talking about….

denarobles_05_22

denarobles_05_23

Ah, here’s a bit of healthy sibling rivalry and competitiveness…I do believe these were intended to be Ruby’s shots.  Nope, not any more.  I do love what they gave me though!

denarobles_05_24

notes: Canon 5D, anything funky looking is  either from the lovely 90mm tilt-shift or Kodak Duaflex Ttv.

Michelle Haley: I love the alley images....wish we had them here in rural GA. Those last ones are super cool - hurray for sibling rivalry!

julie: What a gorgeous girl!! Can't wait to see the rest :) I am SOOOO jealous of your tilt shift. Soo jealous. Great results!!

Daveen: These absolutely fantastic! You've captured the spirit of these children. Beautiful!

Stacy W.: I LOVE your tilt shift - so fun and these images are gorgeous!

nina: I love all these images..the modern unique twist makes them such fun.

Nichol Krupp: Beautiful captures here...both in expression and composition. Great job and lovely girl.

alpana: These are so wonderful!! The location is fab too.

Dave Shields: Good to see you during the Art Trail. Hopefully off to Europe in a couple of weeks time to continue my Holocaust project ...... with a tilt-shift and a duaflex in my bag ..... cheers for the help and advice !

Finally, Sydney brought India.  And India brought Me.   Then we broke out the fish-eye lens and partied in the alleyways and by-ways of Leigh–like only 7 year old girls can do.

Cari Long: Love these! The alley definitely agrees with you!

Remember Valley Girls??  Well, these are the ‘Alley Girls.  I believe they thought I was nuts to bring them down this alley…until they discovered how much fun it was to run up and down at top speed in the rain, more on that later.

So, Anna brought a friend!  Here is Maia.  I don’t know if you can see it here, but Maia has the most gorgeous eye color ever.

Here is Sam.  Not really interested in having photographs made.  I do have a few tricks up my sleeve though.

denarobles_04_22

Gotcha Sam!

Do six year old boys want to photograph with their big sisters?  Not usually…but we worked it out in the end.

denarobles_04_24

And what do 6 year old boys REALLY want to do?  Climb castle walls of course.  Have at it Sam.  You deserve it.
