Fancy Nancy
January 25, 2008When I started out in the photography business (gasp!) 17 years ago the last thing in the world I was interested in photographing was children. Don’t get me wrong, I have always loved being around little ones. Kids and I are kindred spirits. We go way back. So everything else in the big wide world—I photographed. I made a living in the wedding business, studio work, fine art, modelling, you name it. Fast forward to the present and I am truly overjoyed to have spent the last several years of my time with kids and my camera. I do admit that I get a wee bit of rush of excitement once in awhile to be commissioned to photograph other subjects too. Enter Fancy Nancy. Enter…yummy sweet delicious artistic cakes. CAKES! I drool. Now, the beautiful photographs on her website are not a product of mine, but I did get to spend a morning with the creator Juliet Sear to shoot her cake creating process for an upcoming feature story in the magazine Black Meringue. Here are a few photographs from the last few steps. Get your fork!
The finished product:
Tres yummilicious vanilla marzipan brandy berry goodness:
Oh yes my friends, I had a sample of every cake that day. How could I refuse??
Indulge.

Natalie Frankland: Hi Dena Looked at your pictures and you're a truley gifted lady. I'm a very keen photograhper too and was wondering if you ever needed a chirpy, enthusiastic helper for free, I would love to be of assistance to you. I've just had my 2nd child, live in Leigh and would relish the opportunity. Should you be intersted, please email me on simsy282000@yahoo.co.uk Thanks. x
Rebecca: Everything about this image (and the little guy) is perfect. But that baby comb-over is just killing me! Seriously, could he be any cuter? Thanks for the Cam fix . . .
Paul Dunn: Dena, I really cherish the pics of Cameron , as well as, those of Aidan and India. Thanks so very much for sharing your kids via your excellent photography talent and skills. Lova ya Dad
Rebecca: What can I say except that this post made me *so* glad to be (once again) a few thousand miles closer . . . So happy the little "partridge" is feeling better. You must have fed him one of those yummy chocolate cookies. ;)
Patsy Dunn: Yea, I felt like our New Year got a rocky start also, with my mom's accident, sibling stuff, a broken heat pump that cost over $300 to fix and the phones were all messed up at the club. Maybe we are just getting the "bad" over with so we can enjoy all of the good things the rest of year. Where did you find the 5 pounds? I thought I had them, but I have no intention in keeping them. Well maybe I will have to wait until the Christmas fudge is gone.
PamN: just looking at those cookies makes me feel hopeful for the new year...!

kristin cook: THis is one of the sweetest newborn pics I've seen! She has such a precious, content look on her face. ...and that hair! cute.
