Believe it or not there are still a list of friends out there who haven’t heard about Cameron’s arrival. {gasp!} Why is that? Well, you see, Hy and I have this tradition of hand making glorious birth announcements…and writing personal notes in each one…addressing…stamping…delivering…can you see where this is leading? You got it. The downside of being the third child. Hand-me-down clothes and third-hand toys, diapers stay wet a wee bit longer, the meals don’t come quite as fast, the pacifier gets a mere brush-off, the naps happen when it is convenient for everyone else. The third baby didn’t get the handmade announcement. The third baby gets the pleasure of more arms to hold him, more talking and singing and more playing. The third baby gets to meet more helpful adults who just know that mummy needs a hand. The third baby gets to learn more things earlier from big brothers and sisters, the third baby gets the advantage of mum and dad’s now-perfected parenting skills. And the third baby doesn’t get the handmade announcement…but he gets his very own slideshow…and baby one and baby two are envious. In the end, being the third baby is not too shabby.
